Pressed into service as a prototype on trial basis, before full-scale rollout of the entire fleet of 100 for public use, the new electric bus has been gathering dust at the Mayapuri depot for two weeks now, thanks to a technical problem — an accelerator defect.
The transport department has raised the matter with the bus manufacturing company, asking it to resolve the issue and restore the vehicle. The DTC Mayapuri depot has also written to the department to restore the bus for operation on ground as soon as possible. The bus — number DL51GD8479 (prototype) — was in operation from the Mayapuri depot from May 12.
“This bus broke down due to a technical problem (accelerator defect) on line at route 73/1A in evening shift at 18.15, Ridge Road, on 07.06.2023. As per record, (it) missed 88 km on same shift… On 10.06.2023, (it was) again held up in evening shift… due to same technical problem…,” read the letter by DTC Mayapuri depot.
